Talk to Your Fears
Oct 04, 2021
Fear.
It is THE THING that gets in your way more than anything else.
Especially in business. And in how you spend your time.
Nothing derails you more quickly from working on your goals, doing hard things in your schedule, or showing up as your best self in meetings like fear.
For sure, there is the base fear of not being able to provide for your needs.
Not making enough money to pay your bills and keep your business afloat.
That one seems to be front and center - even when your are making plenty of money.
So what’s behind that?
First and foremost, it is your primary, primitive brain.
Your primary brain's job is to KEEP YOU SAFE.
So it is always scanning, always on the lookout for anything it thinks is dangerous.
Things like not being able to provide for your physical needs. Not having money for food, clothing and housing.
Things like not being able to pay your bills.
Things like taking risks and trying new things and not having a “dependable” paycheck.
Let’s face it.
The things you do as an entrepreneur are outside of what most people are comfortable with. They should make your primary brain say, wait a minute!
And that’s when you have to do the hard work.
The hard work to determine if you are actually in danger of not being able to provide for your physical needs or pay your bills… or if you are and you just need to help your primary brain understand that you are indeed safe.
Because most of the time, you ARE safe.
There IS enough money coming in. Plenty of it to cover your needs.
Or if there is not, you already have a plan or savings or something else that you decided on to get you and your business through this time.
You just need to help your primary brain get back on board.
You need to coach it to let it know that you ARE safe. Provided for.
Sometimes, people like to name their primary brain so they can talk to it.
I named mine Sweet Stacie.
Because it is the sweet, toddler like version of me.
So I will say, “Sweet Stacie, I know you are just looking out for me. Just trying to keep me safe. But we are totally safe. Everything is going to be just fine.”
It can be helpful to think of how you might comfort a child who is scared.
You’re safe.
I am here.
I’ve got you safe.
This week, practice talking to your primary brain’s fears instead of listening to them.
