The Secret to Overcoming Any Fear

Your brain likes to tell you that at the core of your fear is safety.

That the fears it is blaring at you are logical.

But most of the time they really aren’t.

And at the core, what you are really afraid of is your feelings.

Specifically, whatever feeling you will feel if your fear comes true.

Embarrassment. Judgment. Humiliation.

Worthless. Stupid. Inadequate.

Loneliness. Rejection. Failure.

Your brain tells you that to feel these emotions is probably going to kill you.

But a feeling is simply a vibration in your body, caused by a thought.

It is the chemicals and hormones that your brain releases into your body to prepare it to take action based on what the brain is directing you to do through your thoughts.

When you stuff your feelings away, resist them or reject them, those vibrations have nowhere to go. They persist and intensify.

When you run away from them and try to numb them away with other things, those vibrations are dulled for the moment but return in force when the feel-good dopamine wears off.

But when you allow yourself to feel that feeling, it passes quickly and truly isn’t a big deal.

Try this out to allow and process your emotions, using the acronym NOW.

Notice and name the emotion.

Open up to it and observe how it feels physically in your body. Scan your body, observe and describe the physical sensations you are experiencing.

Watch those with curiosity, focus on it and witness how it moves throughout your body. Keep doing this until you feel relief from the emotion.

This allows your body to process the feeling. It usually processes through quickly and the intensity will decrease or go away completely.

Often in about 90 seconds.

With this tool, you can truly feel any feeling.

The REALLY aren’t a big deal.

And if you can feel any feeling, all of a sudden your fears become much less intense.

If what you are afraid of is a feeling, but you know you can feel any feeling, you have nothing to fear.

This will allow you to accomplish so much more than you ever thought possible.

So start practicing now. Feel your feelings.
